What's Happening in Natick, MA…

New hospitality major offered by Framingham state

A new major in Hospitality and Tourism Management is being offered by Framingham State University for students interested in careers in the international tourism, travel, and food industries. Those from nearby Natick will certainly want to take advantage of this opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields.

The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education recently approved the program, and Dr. John Palabiyik was hired to help launch it. Palabiyik offered an Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism course in the fall 2018 semester in anticipation of the new major being approved. He said the university is an ideal location to offer such a program as it is only 20 minutes from Boston, which is a hub for international tourism.

F. Javier Cevallos, President of Framingham State, expressed his excitement about being able to offer this program, which he says is very much in demand by students and has excellent jobs prospects in this region.

Palabiyik has many plans for the new program, including field trips to visit major companies in the region, holding a weekly speaker series featuring industry professionals, starting a student Hospitality Club, and offering study abroad opportunities focused on hospitality led by the faculty.

The new major will be offered starting in the Spring 2019 semester, with brochure printing one way to provide more details about such programs and their offerings.
