National guard at Natick benefits from state grant
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts recently awarded the Natick Readiness Center a grant worth $256,250 for a solar canopy to be installed that can produce 205 KW at its building of the Massachusetts National Guard. Level II Dual-head EV Charging stations will also be included as part of the project and pre-wiring for future stations.
This money is the eighth such grant that has been awarded by the grant program of the Leading by Example Solar Canopy from the Department of Energy Resources.
Governor Charlie Baker commented:
This solar installation at the Natick Readiness Center will enable savings on the cost of energy by the National Guard and for those savings to be reinvested into new initiatives.
Around 260,000 kWh of electricity will be produced by the new solar canopy. This will contribute to 82% of the electricity consumption of the facility and will save $30,000 in yearly energy cost. Protection from the weather for people coming to the center will also be provided by the canopy.
Flyers are often used to inform the community of such grants and project as this one and to publicize efforts to a commitment to employ clean and renewable energy sources.
