Natick to feature Detroit-style pizza

An authentic Detroit-style pizza restaurant will be coming to Natick.

Square Mfg. Co. will be opening along Route 9 by a local businesswoman, Kris Gullapalli, a graduate of the University of Michigan. Gullapalli said that she was not aware that the pizza she ate while in college was different to what most locals think of when they have pizza. She found that the more she traveled and moved around the country, that she missed her favorite pizza, and that people were increasingly interested in Detroit-style pizza. Flyer printing can be used to promote and advertise such new types of culinary specialties.

Detroit-style pizza has a crispy and chewy crest and is rectangular in shape. The toppings are placed directly on the dough and then topped with Wisconsin brick cheese, followed by tomato sauce. This style of pizza was invented at Buddy’s Rendezvous in north-central Detroit in the mid-1940s.

Andrew Noakes will be the chef at Square Mfg. Co. He most recently cooked at the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton and was sent by Gullapalli to Detroit to learn how to make this style of pizza. In addition to being able to select a variety of toppings on their pizza, guests will also be able to enjoy chicken wings, breadsticks, salads, and other pizza parlor favorites.

Square Mfg. Co. is expected to open this month.
