What's Happening in Natick, MA…

Natick partners with local develop to offer affordable housing

Metro West Collaborative Development (Metro West CD) will be collaborating with the town of Natick to develop the property which the town owns on Auburn Street.

The property is the home of the former Eliot School. The interior will be repurposed, and the historic architecture of the building will be preserved. Attention is often drawn to such projects with flyers and other printed materials created by local print shops and distributed throughout the community.

An in-depth RFP process of 10 months spearheaded by the Select Board led to this development agreement. Chair of the Select Board, Bruce Evans, said that the belief of the Board was that a partnership with Metro West CD will enable the town to achieve a major milestone in providing affordable housing in Natick. Evans added that there will be 32 high-quality residential units, all of which will be forever affordable housing. The units will be made available using a lottery based on income eligibility with preference to those who either work in Natick or are already residents of the town.

Executive Director of Metro West CD, Caitlin Madden, expressed her thrill that Metro West CD has been selected to develop this property. Madden added that this will enable the Eliot School to be preserved and increase the diversity of available housing in the neighborhood of South Natick.
