Funds awarded to food pantry in Natick

An amount of $37,510 has been awarded to the Natick Service Council (NSC) to support its ability to fight hunger in the community.

The award comes from the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB). The NSC is a partner of the GBFB and is a non-profit organization that engages, connects, and collaborates with the community to support those in Natick who are experiencing economic uncertainty or hardship by promoting self-sufficiency. The funding will enable the NSC to fund a new position for a pantry manager, and to provide nutritious food to residents of Natick.

To meet the increasing needs of its clients, the NSC has increased its Mobile Market appointments from 35 appointments a week to 80 appointments a week, and its appointments for its Heart Healthy Food Pantry by 33%. Local Print shops can assist with letting the community know about such additional appointments with Flyers and other printed materials, which can be distributed throughout the community.

Executive director of the NSC, Dan Shea, said the NSC has very much relied on the support of the Greater Boston Food Bank on many levels due to the rising cost of food over the past year. He said the investment in the programs of the NSC provides the ability to purchase food at a reduced price for clients, which has enabled the organization to serve the community of Natick in a significant way.
