Fundraiser for cancer comes to Natick area

The American Cancer Society will be holding its annual Relay for Life event next month at Bowditch Field in Framingham.

Joining teams from Framingham, Sherborn, and Natick, will be competitors from Ashland and Holliston. Co-chairman of the event, Chuck Dilts, said that the Ashland/Holliston team will be merging with the Natick/Framingham/Sherborn team to create one large team with the ability to raise a great deal of money in the fight against cancer. Last year, the Natick/Framingham/Sherborn team raised over $185,000 to support the programs and research of the American Cancer Society.

Opening ceremonies will be held at noon on the first day, with a DJ also on site. There will also be a dilapidated car on which will be written various types of cancers. People can take a few swings at the car with a hammer for a small fee or donation.

In the evening, there will be a luminaria ceremony with live music, special theme laps, raffles, and other fundraising activities.

A total of 37 teams have been confirmed as participating in the event, including Greater Ashland Lions, Camo for a Cure, and Answer for Cancer.

Print shops can create printed materials to attract large numbers of people to events like these, which are open to the public and to publicize fundraising efforts.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20.
