What's Happening in Natick, MA…

Family charity benefited by walk in Natick

Last Saturday, April 9, the annual ‘Walk Away Homelessness’ event was hosted by Family Promise Metrowest and raised over $136,000, drawing more than 700 walkers.

It was held at the Community Senior Center in Natick, where volunteers, walk teams, vendors, and sponsors were able to gather. The top fundraiser this year was the Islamic Center of Boston team. They were joined in the parking lot by the Unitarian Universalist First Church team from Sherborn and the Eliot Church team from South Natick.

Donna Allen, one of the leaders of the team from the Unitarian Universalist First Church, commented that this was an important program to raise money for, while Rev. Adam Tierney-Eliot added that it was great to see people from the community come together.

Inside the community center, walkers were registered and given swag bags by volunteers, while chair massages were offered to all walkers by Down to Earth Muscular Therapy.

Vendors included Whole Foods, Stacy’s Juicebar and Dunkin Donuts providing refreshments, while kids were treated to tattoo art, balloon sculptures and face painting. Some of the sponsors of the event included Needham Bank at the platinum level, Wellesley Bank Charitable Foundation at the gold level, and DCU for Kids at the silver level.

The top fundraisers were awarded prizes in several categories, with banners possibly being used to announce the total amount raised by participants.
