Conservationist receives historic donation from Natick company

MathWorks, a company based in Natick that develops mathematical computing software, recently donated $25 million to Mass Audubon, the largest conservation organization in New England.

The donation will be over a period of seven years with $7m to be given during the first year, and $3m each year for the next six years. Announcement of such donations is often made known throughout the community and across a state with flyer printing services.

Chief conservation officer of MathWorks, Jocelyn Forbush, expressed her excitement about the donation, noting that it will enable the organization to increase its aspirations for conservation more than had been originally planned. Forsyth said the funds will be used on the conservation of land and on restoring properties that need work. In addition, she said that it will help the organization to create new open spaces for people to enjoy, and address its goal to protect 30% of the land in the state by 2030.

Forbush noted that this is the largest gift ever given to the organization in its history of over 125 years. Mass Audubon protects over 40,000 acres of protected properties in Massachusetts.

Tim Moran, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MathWorks, said that this partnership between MathWorks and Mass Audubon should inspire people to make the effort to protect outdoor spaces that will benefit wildlife and people across the state.
