The Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) recently held a special celebration in commemoration of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the Hunter Auditorium.
The program lasted for an hour and was open to all employees of the Natick Soldier Systems Center. It celebrated the contributions and achievements of the people of Asian American Pacific Islander heritage.
The guest speaker was the commander of the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, Col. Raymond L. Phua. Phua talked about his experiences growing up in Singapore, and the lessons about life that he learned there.
Following Phua’s talk was a short film, which recounted the life of Quoc Truong, a physical scientist at the NSRDEC who was highly regarded and recently retired. As a refugee from Vietnam, he worked throughout his career on the development of innovative, advanced textiles and materials and leading-edge technologies that would improve the life and safety of the American soldier.
At the event, there was also a sampling of Asian foods and a presentation of traditional clothing from a few Asian cultures.
Printing services can be used to create various kinds of printed materials that can be distributed at such events to publicize the many contributions of such a culture to American society and the American armed forces.
