Annual photography contest highlights old South Natick

The Oldtown Photo Calendar Competition is coming to South Natick later this month.

The calendar project has been held for the past 10 years and is a tradition in the community. People who enter the competition come from Dover, Natick, Sherborn, and other towns and states, and range in age from younger than 10 years old, to over 90. Some are professionals while others are amateurs.

The theme of the Competition is the same every year, about ‘Oldtown’ – a fictional town created by Harriet Beecher Stowe in one of her Books from the 1800s. This is an area in the village of South Natick, is nearby the Eliot Bridge over the Charles River, and includes many of the surrounding communities.

Attendees come to vote on those photographs that will be placed in the calendar, and purchase Calendars and cards featuring the work of local photographers as part of the competition’s fundraising efforts. Attendees can also join the Natick Historical Society in tour of the Eliot Historic District.

The Competition will take place on October 16 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Memorial Hall and is part of the Natick Artists Open Studios weekend. Banner printing companies may be used to create items that can be displayed throughout Natick and the area announcing the Open Studios weekend and the Competition.
