What's Happening in Fitchburg, MA…

Fitchburg to celebrate wonderful garden wigglers

Earthworms silently help to recycle nutrients in the garden, and Fitchburg kids are invited to get up close and personal with these valuable invertebrates.

The Fitchburg Public Library has an activity on offer that will introduce kids to the importance of earthworms. The session is part of its Hand on Nature series, and is suitable for children ages four and up.

The facilitator of the session will lead the participants through an exploration of earthworm anatomy and why they are often considered to be a gardener's best friend. The kids will discover how they move, eat, and have adapted to live out their lives under the soil’s surface. Each participant will have a chance to use a magnifying lens to make some observations, and they will each create their own worm farm using a jar they bring from home.

The host of the activity say a parent or guardian will need to accompany each learner, and advance registration is requested. A brochure printing company will be able to prepare take-home kits for a kid-friendly workshop like this, and these can be filled with materials such as promotional pens, basic field guides, and activity sheets.

The Fitchburg Public library will be welcoming young learners for this introduction to the wonders of worms on April 21. It will start at 10:30 am, and wrap up at 11:30 am.
