The Baton Rouge Blues Festival will return in the fall bringing native swamp blues music to the region. The event historically has attracted over 50,000 guests ranging in age from 18-65.
The festival began in 1981 and has grown to one of the largest of its type in the country. The Baton Rouge Blues Foundation is the producer of the event and is led by a board of directors. Several volunteers, partners, sponsors and local organizations lend their support to ensure a successful and productive event each year.
The mission of the organization for the festival is to promote, educate, and preserve swamp blues music that is original to the Baton Rouge area. The unique style originated and took hold in the ‘50s creating famous musicians such as Lightnin’ Slim and Slim Harpo on the scene. The style can be found in various arrangements by the Beatles, Van Morrison, Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton through inspiration derived from the blues greats.
