The Seafood Processors Conference will be held later this month at the AgCenter Mini Farm on the Baton Rouge campus of Louisiana State University (LSU).
Experts from the LSU AgCenter and the LSU Sea Grant College Program will discuss new equipment, sound practices, and the most recent developments in micro-processing.
Director of the Louisiana Direct Seafood program and AgCenter and Sea Grant extension agent, Thomas Hymel, said the seafood industry is changing for harvesters and the trend is going towards micro-processing to help them maintain their economic viability. He added that this event is geared towards those who have been in the industry for quite some time, as well as for those who are thinking about getting started in it, as it will provide hands-on strategies and demonstrations of new equipment that will help businesses advance to the next level.
Among the topics to be covered at the one-day event include trends in developing the industry and the latest leading practices in Packaging and freezing raw seafood. Also to be discussed will be how to secure financing and other means of assistance.
