The Walker Percy Weekend literary festival is taking place this June in St. Francisville. It is presented by the Julius Freyhan Foundation.
Walker Percy set most of his novels around the New Orleans area and was a recipient of the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction.
The festival will consist of lectures, panel discussions, musical entertainment, and several social events. The Twilight in the Ruins cocktail party will be held at the Afton Villa Gardens on the Saturday of the festival. Guests will enjoy music, food, and drinks, and tickets are $75 each. On the same day, there will also be a front porch tour and bourbon tasting for $40 (attendance is restricted to those over the age of 21) and the Crawfish and Craft Beer Feast for $25, which will take place at Parker Park.
There will be tours of two of the locations that were mentioned in Percy's work; the Entergy Nuclear Power Plant and the State Penitentiary.
This event will no doubt attract fans of Walker Percy from all over Louisiana, including Baton Rouge. To help spread the word, local printing companies may have been asked to provide printed Invitations or Flyers to be mailed out.
