Just Friends, a funk-punk band, is currently touring the United States and will be ending its tour in Newport next month at the Southgate House. Residents of Southgate who enjoy this kind of music will want to make sure they attend the concert.
Performances such as this one are often promoted through the use of banner printing throughout the area. Those in Just Friends include Eric Butler on trombone and vocalist, Matt Yankovich on guitar, Avi Dey on trumpet, and lead vocalist Sam Kless. Ryan Ellery provides the live sound and audio engineering for the group and plays guitar. There is a unique range of influences in their music, such as brass, funk, hip hop, and punk, with community at the core of their music.
The group began writing and performing together in 2013 when they would come home from their respective colleges, after belonging to other local groups over the years. Their debut album was released in 2015 which was followed by their second album in 2018. The group signed up with to Pure Noise Records in early 2019 after numerous extremely successful live performances.
The performance will take place on Wednesday, October 16, and concludes their headline tour. The group will then tour through the rest of October and November supporting The Story So Far, a pop-punk group from San Francisco.
