The Southgate Optimist Club is preparing Banners and stuffing eggs for its annual Easter Egg Hunt. The event includes candy, sunshine, and a visit from a certain hopping helper.
The hunt begins around the grassland and park around the Community Center. Children will search for over a thousand eggs hidden in both obvious and tricky spots. No chicken eggs will actually be used, but instead eggs will be made of plastic and filled with candy.
Plenty of space is available, however, if parents want to try to find a private corner outside of the cordoned off section to have their child seek a couple of painted eggs. The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance, accompanied by the local fire department. Photo ops are available, though parents must bring their own cameras.
The event is sponsored by the local branch of Optimist International. The charity organization is devoted to supporting children, youth, and families in the area, and this is one of numerous events it sponsors throughout the year. Optimist International was first founded in 1919 and there has been a group in Southgate since 1946
The Southgate Optimist Club Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Sunday, March 27, starting at 2:00 pm at the Southgate Community Center located at 301 W. Walnut St. Admission is free for everyone, and those interested in more information should call or visit the website.
