Southgate school receives special distinction

St. Therese School in Southgate recently received a check from Local 12 and Duke Energy, as it was recognized as School of the Week.

The $1,000 check was given to members of the faculty and staff at the school for innovative programs involving extracurricular activities. The school created Enrichment Monday, which takes place on the second Monday of every month, so that after the school day ends, students can continue learning and have fun. Activities range from playing Ring Around the Rosie and cards to going to robotics and coding classes. A seventh grader commented that regardless of one’s experience or background, this program enables students to learn something.

Students from schools such as this one might benefit from the assistance of local Print shops to advertise their achievements with printed Banners and Posters.

Principal Dorothy O’Leary said that when many children go home, they spend a lot of time on their computers. This program enables them to remain at school and socialize and interact with each other.

This recognition and funds have a special meaning for St. Therese School as O’Leary is retiring at the end of the academic year. Warren Walker from Duke Energy Center said that this is one way to acknowledge the school for its accomplishments and help send off the principal in a special way.
