A partnership has recently been announced between the Newport Independent Schools and the Southgate Independent Schools wherein Newport will provide finance and human resource services to the Southgate schools.
Kelly Middleton, Superintendent of the Newport schools, approached Greg Duty, Superintendent of the Southgate schools, after he learned the district was about to hire a finance director. The Newport schools already provide food services to Southgate, so Middleton considered this as another partnership, as it would cost the Southgate schools less money and it would help offset expenses for the Newport schools.
Duty expressed his excitement about this new partnership, and Ramona Malone, Chairwoman of the Newport Board of Education, said that this partnership clearly indicates the two leaders are focused on the benefits for the students. She added that such innovative thinking enables students to benefit with more direct quality services.
Matthew Scott, a member of the Newport Board of Education, commented that this is an example of two school districts coming together to support one another in ways that are mutually beneficial.
His hope is that other pioneering solutions can be found to lower the costs of other areas of school administration.
Poster and flyer printing companies can be used to publicizesuch partnerships between school districts, letting the respective communities know of their benefits for students.
