Runners egged on by annual race

It is almost time for locals to lace up their running shoes and take part in an annual race near Southgate this month.

The ‘23rd Egg Nog Jog’ features a 5K race with a difficult, yet scenic route that snakes around Mt. Adams and through Eden Park.

Mt. Adams is one of seven hills that surround Cincinatti; a town about five miles away from Southgate. For this reason, the race will have views of both the city and the Ohio River.

Chip timing will be used for the race, and medals will be given to all individuals who finish. In addition, there will awards for the top finishers in several different categories. The event will also include door prizes.

After the jog, participants can go to Longworth's, a local restaurant and bar, for food, awards, and, of course, eggnog. Once a firehouse, the establishment will serve as the headquarters for race day registration and the event that follows the race. No doubt the restaurant has used a flyer printing service to create handouts to promote the day’s activities.

Preregistration costs $20, while registration on the day is $25. Those who are aged 18 and under will receive $5 off the price. Long-sleeved event T-Shirts are also available for purchase.

The race starts on December 20 at 10:00 am. Race day registration is from 8:15 am until 9:45 am. Longworth’s can be found on 1108 St. Gregory Street. For more information, call 513-652-6225.
