Roadwork construction enhances connectivity in Southgate area

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently announced the reopening of two major intersections in Northern Kentucky after more than a year under construction, although there will still be some minor gutter and curb work.

One is on the Levee near the Taylor Southgate Bridge and Newport, while the other connects Fourth and Fifth Streets at the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Both these intersections now have roundabouts, which have created some new traffic patterns in their respective areas. The roundabouts were the second phase of three which is part of expanding and updating KY 9, a major roadway running through Campbell County in a north-south direction.

Interstate 275 will now be connected to the Taylor South Bridge in Wilder due to the renovations to KY 9.

Chief District Engineer for District 6 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Bob Yeager, said that this work in northern Kentucky to expand the highway was significant as the improvements will and provide greater economic opportunities for Northern Kentucky, including Newport and Southgate.

Other members of the business community have applauded the changes, hopeful that the roundabouts will help to ease traffic where there is a mix of pedestrians and automobiles, and facilitate the ability to get around the area quickly.

Print companies could be used to create mailers and other materials which can be sent to those in the region to inform them of any new traffic patterns.
