Ground has been broken on a new classroom based on nature in West Covington at the LearingScape at Altamont Early Learning Center. This project is a collaborative effort between the PNC Foundation and Learning Grove and may be of interest to those in nearby Southgate once it is completed.
A grant of $125,000 is making the project possible and will enrich students and their families and take advantage of playing outdoors. The grant is part of a pool of funds announced by the PNC Foundation that will support the enhancement and development of high-quality learning and outdoor play environments for children from birth to age five.
Learning Grove will use the funding to a natural playscape that offers age-appropriate equipment and activities such as a state-of-the-art rolling hill and climbing area, sensory tables, and an interactive nature-based stone path. Local Print shops can be hired to draw attention to such projects with Flyers and Posters with more information about their features and benefits.
PNC regional president for Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, Warren Weber, said that playing outdoors is important for the development of a child. He added that this funding is one way that the foundation can help the future leaders of the community develop the skills they need and help to set the basis for the long-term economic vitality and health of the region.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall.
