Students in Richmond who are interested in learning an instrument or singing their hearts out will once again have the opportunity to do so.
Eastern Kentucky University is partnering with the Richmond Area Arts Council to deliver the Madison Music Program to local students.
As part of the program, fourth through sixth-grade students will have the chance to learn the violin, cello, or viola, while children in kindergarten through sixth grade can participate in a choir. Private music lessons are also available for piano, cello, viola, violin, and guitar.
Organizations that will offer music lessons and programs for children can use poster printing to get the word out. Posters can be hung in classrooms and around the community.
The director of Richmond Area Arts Council, Randy Westbrook, collaborated with Jeremy Mulhollan, the music department chair at the Eastern Kentucky University to create the program. Westbrook is also an adjunct professor of musicology at the university. The instructors for the Madison Music Program come from the university.
The classes will take place on Mondays and Thursdays at the Richmond Area Arts Council building. A limited number of violins will be available for rent for $40 per semester and the cost of tuition to the program is $180. Private lessons cost $22 per half hour or $330 for a full semester. Private lessons are arranged by parents and the instructor and take place at the university's campus.
The choir will rehearse on Tuesdays, at 6:00 pm, for one hour.
