Richmond organizes plant swap party

A garden swap can be a thrifty and fun way for green thumbs to score some good-as-new gear, and one of these activities will soon be hosted in Richmond by the Madison County Cooperative Extension Service.

Those who include Garden Palooza in their October plans will be able to trade their gently used items for ones that are new to them. It is free to take part and there will be other activities on offer as well, including an opportunity to access soil testing.

Those interested can drop their items off an hour ahead of the swap’s start time, and tools, gardening books, plant starts, seeds, and other horticultural materials will be welcome. Plants should be clean, free of disease, and non-invasive, and books should be gardening themed.

Along with the exchange, attendees will be able to learn more about growing their own fruit and vegetables in their home garden. Everyone will walk away with composting tips and other home gardening hacks.

For any pop-up event, a poster printing company will be able to help build the buzz. It can accommodate most budgets and will have a variety of options available.

Garden Palooza will bring plant-themed fun to Richmond on Saturday, October 18, running from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon. It will take place at 250 Duncannon Lane. The organizers can be contacted at 859-623-4072.
