Her pageant platform focused on empowering women and on showing young women that they have value within themselves. For the talent portion of the pageant, Pidgorodetska sang ‘Live Out Loud’, a song from ‘A Little Princess’.
The words of the song had special meaning for Pidgorodetska. Speaking to the Richmond Register, she said:
"The words line up perfectly with the message I’m trying to send young women. Here I was in the midst of all these people and I was being told where to stand and where I needed to put my hand on my hip, and that’s not me. I’m not the typical pageant girl."
Landing the third-place spot was a surprise for Pidgorodetska, as she did not even expect to make the top five. She has participated in pageants ever since middle school and was recently named Miss EKU, becoming the first person to hold this title since the 1980s. Originally from Mt. Stirling, she is the first woman from the town to participate in the Miss Kentucky pageant in almost 100 years.
Pageant organizers can use Brochures to encourage young women to participate, especially because it can help to partially fund an education. Pidgorodetska has earned a yearly $2,500 scholarship for taking third place at Miss Kentucky and won $3,000 for Miss EKU.
