Rooftop igloo dining returns to downtown Louisville
The restaurant 8UP, located on the Hilton Garden Inn’s eighth floor, has brought back its innovated and successful rooftop igloo dining.
The transparent igloos were first utilized last winter and proved to be popular, with December 2019 and January 2020 seating selling out. Orginally scheduled to return sometime this month, the decision was made to bring the igloos back early in response to the pandemic and its effect on the hospitality industry. With Halloween in mind, this started with the igloos being transformed into igBoos.
As before, reserving an igloo involves a food and drink minimum, which in turn is determined by the timeslot being reserved. There is a two-and-a-half-hour maximum limit per booking. The restaurant factors in ample time between reservations for the igloos to be completely cleaned and sterilized.
Now that Halloween has come and gone, the igloos will be taking on the traditional winter themes of last year, which will grace the unique dining arrangement through March.
Small companies and offices are frequently seeking out a location for dinner parties near the end of the year, at which they can pass out corporate gifts as a thank you to employees.
Entry into the hotel will require the wearing of a mask, which must be worn up to 8UP and into the igloo. Once inside the enclosure, it will be up to guests to choose whether to continue wearing their masks.
