The University of Art Museum, in the Singletary Center for the Arts at Kentucky University in Lexington, is open and has several art exhibits with varying themes. Reservations are needed and can be made online or by calling the museum.
The Larry River Boston Massacre will run until April 3, with 13 mixed media paintings of this historical event. His paintings depict the struggles between the colonists and the British soldiers. His work also comments on civil rights and the Vietnam War.
Face Off: Patrick Smith with Victor Hammer will run until April 3. Lexington-based painter Smith is known for his lifelike depictions of friends and individuals, drawn from photos. His work is shown with Victor Hammer, a Vienna artist known for portraits of diplomats and the wealthy.
Kentucky Watercolors by local artist Paul Sawyier will be shown until March 20. His work depicts the state’s landscapes, waterfalls, bridges, churches, rivers, cemeteries, waterways, and homes.
How About the Cats is an exhibit of paintings, photography, prints, and textiles of lions, leopards, and other large cats. The work is by three women artists - Rosa Bonheur, Wanda Gag (an illustrator known for the book Millions of Cats), and portrait artist Alice Neel. It runs until March 20.
