Several Lexington community organizations have created Nourish Lexington to help restaurant and hospitality workers during recent business closings.
FoodChain, E.E. Murray Family Foundation, Blue Grass Community Foundation, Keeneland, and VisitLex united to found this organization, which uses the skills of chefs, restaurant workers, farmers, and nonprofits to prepare and serve meals to those in need in the community.
The program has been backed by several generous donors, like The Lavin Family Foundation and Jenna and Matthew Mitchell Family Foundation.
The organization creates opportunities for individuals to earn money and serve meals to those in need.
Nourish Lexington has kitchen facilities to prepare the food, as well as professional workers and distribution professionals. Workers are paid for four-hour shifts and meals are delivered to seniors and families in need in the community.
When Keeneland race track canceled its spring races, it donated 1,500lb of food to Nourish Lexington. Its plans are to donate funds from its online shops during April to this organization.
The program will be run from kitchen facilities at FoodChain on Jefferson and West. Whittaker Bank Ball Park will be another point for meal distribution for this program.
