The building at Lexington Green that once housed the Cinemark movie theater is getting a makeover.
Lexington’s Division of Planning office announced that an amended development plan was recently filed to request a revision of the building use. Once an eight-screen operation, plans now call for the space to be redeveloped into shops, restaurants, and office space.
While not part of The Mall at Lexington Green, the new shops and eateries being proposed benefit from proximity. According to Bill Sallee, planning manager with the Division of Planning, plans call for most of the renovation work to be inside the structure. Few exterior changes have been requested, although there is an appeal to add patios on two front corners of the building, presumably for additional restaurant seating.
Since 1996, Nashville Mini Storage LP has owned the building, which sits on a 1.8-acre site. In 2006, Cinemark developed a 16-screen multiplex operation at nearby Fayette Mall. At that time, the Lexington Green operation was converted to an art-house format, and then to a discount format in 2008, before it was finally closed last month.
