Local businesses given five-figure grant by community group

Locally Lexington, a community service partnership, has given $77,000 to businesses, non-profits, retailers, and restaurants in the area.

The group offers two types of grant to businesses. The first one is an opening and recovery grant made possible between a partnership of Downtown Lexington Management District, Kinetic by Windstream, and Downtown Lexington Partnership. The money is used for interior and exterior improvements, such as purchasing new inventory, outdoor seating, cleaning, and disinfecting, PPE materials, rent, and staffing.

The second grant is a matching technology grant through Kinetic by Windstream, and gives businesses a free technology audit, recommendations for the best technology their business, and $1,500 in free services for the term of the contract.

One local Lexington business, Worlds Apart, used the first grants to pay rent and the second to sign up for two years of Windstream services. Speaking to Lex18.com, owner Howard Rackmil says it was a “godsend” because they wanted to upgrade their internet service. He says with the new service, the company has increased the bandwidth, can upgrade the website, and run Facebook Live sessions to sell products.

This program has funded over 33 local businesses. Some of the businesses funded were Corta Lima (a Latin-inspired restaurant open 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm) and Postmaster’s Pub (a place with beer, wine, cocktails, sandwiches, chili, salads, and appetizers). Lexington has printers with graphic design staff that design and Print advertising and marketing material for organizations like this.

Businesses, restaurants, bars, and non-profits can apply for grants by visiting the Locally Lexington website.
