Menopause: The Musical is coming to Lexington. Two performances of this comedy musical will take place at the Lexington Opera House in April.
The musical was created in 2001 by Jeanie Linders. The original Off-Broadway production had a successful run of over 1,500 performances. Subsequent productions in various cities across the U.S. set records.
The Apollo Theater (Chicago) production was the highest-grossing in the theater’s history. The production at the Gem Theater became the longest-running show of all Michigan time. A still-running 2006 Las Vegas production also holds the title of the longest-running scripted musical in that city.
In all, an estimated 17 million audience members have seen the musical. It has also been performed in more than 500 cities worldwide. These include productions translated into nine different languages.
The musical follows four women shopping in a department store for the same black lace bra. They become fast friends and start joking about the problems of feminine middle age together. This is done through parodies of popular hits from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.
The two performances will take place on Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 6 at 7:30 pm. The address of the Lexington Opera House is 401 West Short Street. Theater owners may be interested in Graphic Design Services for the playbooks presented at such performances.
