Lexington co-op seeks to simplify food delivery

A new food delivery service has opened in Lexington just before the new year. It charges customers a flat fee and workers deliver meals to customers at no extra cost.

Aaron Withers, managing director of Delivery Co-op in Lexington, says the business helps customers and restaurants save money by charging a flat fee and not incurring unexpected expenses. The delivery service is now testing the service with Chef Ouita Michel’s two restaurants - Zim’s Café and Hollywood.

The co-op plans to have 50 drivers and restaurants using their service in 2021. Withers wants to provide good jobs to local Lexington drivers, and promises they will be able to keep the tips.

The delivery service wants to focus on independent restaurants in 2021. It uses an app that was Chef Michel’s idea, but the creators of the app wanted to help local restaurants because they believe they are the lifeline of the community.

Robotics are being tested to assist drivers with the delivery of food in the future. The bot on wheels can be driven carrying the food, or follows the delivery person.

At the end of the year, any net profits will be given back to the members of the co-op, which is a non-profit organization. Printers design Flyers and provide flyer printing services for businesses like this.
