Festival celebrates the past and future of bluegrass music

The Festival of the Bluegrass is taking place in Lexington next month for four days.

Beginning a couple of days before the festival from June 5 to 7 is the Kentucky Bluegrass Music Camp for children between the ages of 6 and 18. Instruction ranges from beginners to advanced players. Campers are asked to bring their own fiddles, guitars, banjos, mandolins, and basses. The fee is $45 and includes lunch daily. Parents or guardians must be on hand.

The event brings together some of the best bluegrass musicians in the country to perform. Some of those who will be appearing at this year’s festival include Flatt Lonesome, the Whisky Bent Valley Boys, Town Mountain, the Dry Branch Fire Squad, and Darin and Brooke Aldridge.

There will also be a number of food and craft vendors on hand.

Camping is encouraged and several primitive camping sites are available for rent; very few of them have electricity.

Lexington bluegrass fans will be sure to flock to this festival. To spread the word, organizers may have invested in flyer printing services.

The Festival of the Bluegrass will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground from June 7 to 10. Tickets are $100 for four days or $115 with camping and $45 for youth. Daily tickets range in price from $10 to $55. Call 859-253-0806 for more information.
