It is the first time in a few years the report has been published, as it was shelved during the COVID pandemic. The report collates accountability scores for districts and schools within the Commonwealth. The scores are made by putting together the standardized test scores from students in the region. Colors are used to classify the counties and show how they have performed.
Blue is very high, green is high, yellow is medium, orange is low, and red is very low. Overall, Fayette County Public Schools were rated as yellow. Lexington Traditional Magnet School, for example, was given an overall score of 41.6 while SCAPA got an overall score of 94. Schools that perform well might want to highlight their achievements on their promotional Pens.
Superintendent Demetrus Liggins commented:
"While we all know test scores provide an incomplete picture of all that our students have accomplished, this data provides an opportunity to evaluate where we are following the challenges and disruptions our students, staff, families, schools, and community have faced over the past two years."
The county is working with teams from the schools to create a new Comprehensive School Improvement Plan that will help underperforming students improve their grades. The new plan will be made with contributions from teachers, families, students, and community members.
