Council approves Town Branch Commons donation drive

The Urban County Council gave a thumbs up, by a vote of 14 to 1, to an agreement that will allow Blue Grass Community Foundation to commence fundraising for the Town Branch Common.

The $180,000 agreement launches the search for over $50m in private donations to fund the 2.5-mile linear Town Branch Commons Corridor (TBCC) in downtown Lexington. The anticipated donations would be in addition to the over $10m being borrowed for the project.

A combination of state money and federal grants in the amount of $13m is anticipated to begin the first phase, which will be building project infrastructure. Two trails, the Town Branch Trail and the Legacy Trail, would be linked with each other and the downtown area. This will allow increased opportunities for bicycle commuting, as well as recreational use. A series of “pocket parks” within the larger linear park system would be constructed with the private donations, as would other amenities.

The TBCC is anticipated to be an important part of Lexington’s downtown landscape for years to come. The project will change the way Lexington’s business district and neighborhood businesses conduct business, particularly how they market themselves. Savvy entrepreneurs taking into consideration how these changes will affect their business will likely wish to confer with their local Print company on the best way to adapt to changing consumer traffic patterns.
