Farming instructional course brings Georgetown residents closer to nature

Aspiring farmers and homesteaders will want to check the calendar for next month to avoid making plans, as a farming course is offering learning opportunities in Georgetown.

The Farming From Afar guided tour and learning workshop will start in a few weeks. It will provide an environment for individuals with no farming experience or background to learn the basics of gardening and homesteading. Farmer Mac Stone will lead participants on a tour of the crops and livestock present at the farm.

Registered guests are encouraged to monitor the conditions and wear comfortable clothing. The event will still go ahead in poor weather unless it becomes severe, in which case the host may cancel it. Guests are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early for check-in before the tour begins. Printing services are invaluable when sharing information about crops and livestock at outdoor events like this.

After purchasing tickets, each registered guest will receive directions to the farm entrance. Attendees should wear comfortable walking shoes and pants to kneel and examine the soil. Water and snacks are also recommended for a comfortable experience. Children are welcome but must be supervised.

The tour will be held at Elmwood Stock Farm on Saturday, August 3. Check-in will start at 8:50 AM, and the tour will depart at 9:00 AM. Tickets cost $15 per adult online, and children aged 12 and under can attend for free.
