Beginner workshop takes Georgetown to medieval ages

A beginner swordplay and exercise class is opening enrollment in Georgetown next month, allowing fans of shows like Game of Thrones, Vikings, and others to take a trip back in time.

The Adult Beginner HEMA Class is preparing to welcome area residents who have an interest in swords and wish to get a workout while learning what goes into being a knight. The introductory course, which is being offered for free, will allow students to learn under the tutorage of an experienced instructor, thus building confidence and stamina.

The event is open to all interested parties 18 and over, and individuals are encouraged to invite friends and family to share the fun. Enrollees are encouraged to bring water from home to remain hydrated throughout the class. Poster printing can provide the resources necessary for a grassroots marketing campaign that promotes such events, increasing attendance and helping organizers build a following.

Students will need to sign a waiver before attending the course, which they can find, fill out, and submit on the HEMA Lexington website. The instructor will teach techniques used during the Middle Ages, and students can combine their love of history with a martial arts-based workout.

The course will be held at 172 Southgate Drive in Georgetown, and is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at 12:00 noon. Registration is open online.
