Portage art class will feature some fine feathered friends

Indiana is home to many different species of birds, ranging from tiny hummingbirds to large birds of prey. Portage birders and artists alike may find that a local event has a lot to offer them, and those of all levels of artistic skill are welcome.

Indiana Dunes State Park is holding an “Arts in the Parks” series, and one of the activities will be a workshop that focuses on birds found in the state. The models that will be used include some of the Dunes State Park Nature Center’s own collection of taxidermied specimens, and both painting and drawing techniques will be taught.

For a small registration fee, the students in the class will receive instruction as well as all the supplies that they will need to create their own works of art. At noon, there will will be a light meal served. While the event is geared towards adults, children who are eight years of age or over may participate so long as they are accompanied by an adult.

This opportunity for the public to both learn about birds and brush up on their artistic skills is being offered through the support of the Indiana Arts Commission and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Flyers can be an economical way to market this sort of function, and they can be obtained from a professional flyer printing company.

The Beginner Bird Drawing and painting Workshop is set to be offered on March 24th. The registration price is $5.00.
