Gurnee honors teachers
During the week of May 6, Gurnee officials honored three teachers who work in districts that serve students from the village, according to an article in the Daily Herald.
Frank Fitzgerald, Chris Mason, and Darlene Lipczynski were acknowledged in what has become a yearly awards program, starting in 2014. Each received a plaque, along with a check for $1,000 drawn from private funds.
Fitzgerald is a teacher at Spaulding School, which teaches prekindergarten through the second grade. According to Ellen Mauer, Spaulding's principal, Fitzgerald enhances his art classes through the use of technology. Mauer describes Fitzgerald as a ‘selfless’ person who goes the extra mile for students all year, and is respected by the community and his colleagues.
Lipczynski works at Woodland Middle School where she teaches English language arts. She is a strong advocate for children, and says her purpose is to give them a voice “and provide a safe place to use that voice.” She also wants children to know they have worth and value.
Mason has been teaching business for 29 years at Warren. She is a longtime adviser to the Future Business Leaders of America, and has a passion for accounting. She feels she is teaching skills students can use for a lifetime, and that enables her to make a difference.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a flyer printing company on a handout that describes the honorees' accomplishments.
