Major roadworks planned for Lake County

Lake County's road construction activities are set to intensify in the upcoming weeks as contracts worth approximately $8.37m have been awarded for two major upcoming projects.

Utility and preliminary work is already progressing and the primary construction is anticipated to commence within a month’s time. Berger Excavating Contractors from Wauconda secured both contracts as they submitted the lowest reasonable bid.

One project worth $2.99m will take place at the intersection of Miller Road and Route 12 in Lake Zurich, which is close to Barrington. The primary objective is to construct lanes dedicated to left turns on the eastern and western sections of Miller Road. Currently, motorists share the existing left-turn and through lanes located on Miller Road, which causes traffic congestion. Printing services can be used to direct drivers through diversions in cases like this.

Shane Schneider, the county’s engineer and director of transportation, said:

"This will provide a pretty beneficial operational improvement."

The construction plans also include installing crosswalks for pedestrians at all four legs of the intersection, where there are currently none, as well as a sidewalk. Schneider further added that if a new project is initiated on the presently rural northwest corner, developers will have to provide a sidewalk as well.

Pedestrian crosswalks will be installed at all four corners of the intersection, along with a sidewalk on the northeast side.
