Barrington area class to build dish gardens

A local workshop may help to make the Barrington winter feel a whole lot brighter.

Houseplants offer a way to add color and life to home all year round, and this will be the focus of an activity that will be held at Lurvey Home and Garden Center in Des Plaines. It will be beginner friendly and will show how to create a tabletop dish garden that will be easy to care for.

The class will teach how to select plants that have similar needs for light, water, and temperature into a planting that is aesthetically pleasing, taking factors like texture and color into consideration. As most dish gardens eventually need to be broken up and repotted, this will also be included in the discussion, which means that the participants will be able to grow the individual plants on their own for a long time to come.

Houseplants offer a way to keep going even in the middle of winter. Arming each attendee in a horticultural class with printed tip sheets will make it easier for them to get started, and these may be ordered from a flyer printing company.

Lurvey Home and Garden Center in Des Plaines will be offering this workshop on Saturday, January 29. The fee to register is $59.99, and tickets are on sale now.
