The 5th annual Paint the Town Barrington art festival returns next month, with the addition of a new Plein Air Painting workshop for all local artists.
A maximum of 30 artists will paint the town’s landmarks during the week of October 4 to 9, for the Paint the Town Barrington event. The paintings must be submitted at the White House in Barrington for judging before the reception and awards ceremony at 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 9. The artwork will be made available for sale after the reception. Often, professional printing services are used to create programs and catalogues for events like this.
Artists may register to have their paintings included in this event for $30. A registration form is available on the Paint the Town Barrington website, with additional information available by emailing the organizer, Clancy Potts, at cpotts@barrington-il.gov.
The outdoor painting workshop will be presented by local artist Steve Puttrich, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on Sunday, September 26, at the Citizen Park in Barrington. Students will learn basic art skills and concepts, including simplification, design, values, and composition. Artists will be encouraged to focus on the importance of lighting, and their intention when choosing a scene to paint. Each student will be given individual attention, with specific advice and techniques for their artistic medium.
The cost of the one-day workshop is $100, however the first 10 high school students to register will be able to attend the class for free by using the code 6BNEGXC. Attendees need to bring their own art supplies, a folding chair, and sunscreen.
