State gourd society to hold festival in Nampa
The Idaho Gourd Society will organize a festival in September at the Franz Witte Garden Center in Nampa.
The Idaho Gourd Festival is a multi-day event where people can participate in gourd-themed art classes and browse vendors. There will also be gourd art competitions and make-and-take art projects. Attendees can watch demonstrations and purchase items at the venue’s gourd store. The fest will also feature food trucks, live music, and art exhibits. The art classes will be led by Jane Wilson and include topics like floating coils and knotless netted vases.
The Idaho Gourd Society was established by Heather Mingus and Barbara Merrill in 1998. The organization’s first meeting was held in Eagle, Idaho. The group’s goal is to unify gourd growers and artists while promoting gourd appreciation. Those who become members of the gourd society can participate in meetings, seed exchanges, competitions, and public outreach events. Members may also learn how to judge gourd shows and give art demonstrations.
The Idaho Gourd Festival will be from Friday, September 20th to Sunday, September 22nd. Those interested in the art workshops must purchase tickets in advance. People can become part of the gourd society by paying $15 per year and filling out a membership form. Societies such as this can promote their seasonal activities to more consumers by using poster printing services.
