What's Happening in Roswell, GA…

Officials opened the Sun Valley Drive Extension recently with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Among the dignitaries present were Lori Henry, the mayor of Roswell; Steve Acenbrak, the city's transportation director; Liz Hausmann, one of the county's commissioners; Brandon Beach, Georgia State Senator; and members of the city council.

The Extension is described as a “complete street” that can accommodate vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. Specifically, the route now boasts 11-foot-wide lanes for vehicles, bicycle lanes that are four feet wide, sidewalks on the south side that are five feet wide, and an eight-foot-wide path that can be used for many purposes, on the north side.

The Extension offers a new route between Alpharetta Highway and Mansell Road, which will help to decrease congestion where the two roads intersect. The project extended the existing road to Warsaw Road from Alpharetta Highway, and also included improvements to the intersections, as well as a new roundabout. Acenbrak said the city focused its efforts on mobility, but they included people and how to make the area more livable, not just how to manage vehicular traffic.

Before they began working on the extension, Roswell finished several improvements to its storm water system.
