Roswell workshop teaches art of kokedama

Flower arranging and growing indoor plants has strong roots in Japanese culture, and a Roswell workshop will teach one of its techniques for cultivating plants with a minimal amount of soil.

Kokedama is the centuries-old art of growing plants with their roots wrapped in a moss ball, and the Roswell Adult Recreation Center will be hosting this introduction to the techniques used. Designed for people aged 50 and older, it will run for two hours, and all materials needed will be supplied.

The instructor for the session will teach how to use the moss, rooted cutting, and other materials for the kokedamas, and the finished result may be hung or placed on a tabletop stand. Attendees will learn how to care for their creation and may ask any questions they have. Tickets for the class are $30 for residents or $45 for non-residents.

Older adults may appreciate the opportunity to learn something new, and many communities offer special activities for those age 50 and up. A flyer printing company will be happy to craft recreation guides for distribution to the households in an area to keep them abreast of what is going on in their own town.

This introduction to the art of kokedama will be on offer next Friday, May 8, starting at 1:00 pm. Its registration system can be accessed by visiting its online listing.
