What's Happening in Roswell, GA…

For the 15th year in a row, paddlers will celebrate the fun people can have on the water at the Back to the Chattahoochee River Race and Festival.

The event is organized by the City of Roswell, along with the National Park Service in partnership with the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK), and celebrates the river and its importance to the 3.5 million people it serves.

The race starts the day, and includes both recreational and competitive categories in which stand-up paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks can compete. The course is eight miles long, during which participants have to negotiate Class I-II rapids, and finishes at Riverside Park. Awards for Best Boat Decoration and Best Costume will be presented at the end of the race. The SweetWater Beer Barge will be available exclusively to racers at the end of the contest, where they can enjoy water, sodas, or a beer before they go ashore.

The festival immediately follows the race. This family-friendly event includes farmers market vendors, local artisans, and live music by the Dead 27s.

The events are scheduled for this Saturday, May 20. The race starts from Garrard Landing Park at 9:00 am, and the festival, which is free, runs from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm the same day.
