Part of the events leading into the annual Giro d'Italia race – which sees professional cyclists tour thousands of miles on the roads of Italy – it is hoping to boost Italian culture.
The Gran Fondo is a world tour, and Roswell will this year take up the baton for its southeastern leg. A day-long bike ride that will take in over 100 miles of the local roads around the region, it is not a race and organisers are hoping that as many people take part as possible.
Announcing the news, which will see Print companies design and produce Banners, Posters, and all manner of media for the event, Mayor Jere Wood said:
"We are […] proud to be hosting the inaugural ride in Georgia."
It is not the first cycling event in Roswell.
Renowned for being bike-friendly, the city hosts a number of other events and races through the year, including the Roswell Criterium. However, the appearance of the Gran Fondo is a step up, according to Mayor Wood, who continued:
"This will get us into the big times.
"We are truly going international."
