Roswell is updating its long-range plan, which forecasts the developments in the city until 2035.

The update has revealed that most residents would prefer that in the future, single-family neighborhoods remain the same with regard to zoning, as well as high-density redevelopment.

Roswell officials are working with Pond, an engineering and architectural consulting firm based in Norcross, on plan updates. The plan suggests recommendations that can be used for strategic planning in the long term.

At a recent community meeting, Erick Lusher, who is Pond's program manager, outlined the key findings with regard to basic parts of the plan, including economic development, housing, population, transportation, urban design, community facilities, land use, and cultural and natural resources. Lusher said that no subdivision in Roswell is pressing for redevelopment; instead, most neighborhoods that are already established would remain designated for only single-family residential homes.

Residents indicate they would prefer commercial development take place along the Highway 9 or Highway 92 corridors. Commercial development and other diverse activities seem to be more suited for the Crabapple area, which would also provide some residential housing. One of the main points of the plan is to anticipate the needs of residents as they age.

City officials could work with a flyer printing company to let residents of the updates and status of the plan.
