Roswell Council gives go-ahead for purchase of land

The Roswell City Council recently approved the purchase of land to create the new Seven Branches Legacy Park. The Shirley Property, as the land is known, comprises almost 35 acres between Martin's Bridge Landing and Eves Road, along Holcomb Bridge Road, and the current owner agreed to donate another 13 acres of land to the city. The purchase is not to be more than $2,100,000, according to an article in the Alpharetta-Roswell Herald.

Jere Wood, mayor of Roswell, said he was delighted by the purchase, calling the area:



“one of the prettiest spots in Roswell”




He added that it will be a:



“great legacy for the city”




The newly acquired parcel will become part of the Seven Branches Legacy Park, a larger project that will connect nearby trails, parks, and schools. Officials believe that creating the park will improve East Roswell's environmental stewardship, as well as its walkability.

The project dates back to 2015, when a number of Roswell residents banded together to ask the city to buy the land, which they wanted to be used for recreational and park purposes. The council unanimously agreed to the purchase, though there is currently no word on what the park will comprise, or what the timetable for the work will be.
