The Roswell Library will be closing soon for remodeling, since the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System has heard from its users that they are judging a book by its cover, and would like to see improvements in both accessibility and appearance.

The Roswell branch is one of 23 libraries throughout the county that will be getting a makeover. The work could be done in as little as three months, or take as long as nine, depending on the size of the project.

There are seven libraries the system has designated as Group 1, including West End, Dogwood, and Roswell, which will all close at the same time. Although some work has begun, the closures are necessary to facilitate more extensive renovations.

Among the items scheduled to be upgraded are roofs, HVAC systems, and technology. Layouts will be improved, new shelving will be installed, and study spaces will be created. Restrooms will be renovated to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Dr. Gabriel Morley, who is the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System's director, said he knows the closures will be inconvenient for some people, but stresses that the results will be worth the effort.

The Roswell Library, which has been in operation since 1989, is scheduled to close on August 21. The library , which is on Norcross Street and has over 100,000 items in its collection, will reopen late in February.
