Lavender, the sweet-smelling plant that is the basis for perfumes, soaps, and products throughout the world, will be celebrated soon in Roswell, as the city gets ready for the 9th Annual Lavender Festival.
The fun will take place at Barrington Hall, a home located on seven acres in Historic Roswell, a section of the city's downtown. The hall was built in the 1830s by Barrington King, the son of Roswell King, who co-founded the community that now bears his name.
The day is planned to exhibit the many different uses for lavender, and will comprise demonstrations, classes, samples of lavender foods, crafts, arts, food vendors, antiques, and activities for the children.
Demonstrations will include how to make bouquet garni and French crepes, how to make lavender wands, and how to use a teacup to hold a bouquet. The Enchanted Fairy Hollow will allow festival-goers the chance to build whimsical habitats from natural material found on the property. Lavender's healing properties will be showcased in the Zen Zone, and there will be vendors of every type. If that weren't enough, live music performed by Davin McCoy, the Battlefield Collective, and Highbeams will be part of the fun.
The Lavender Festival is set for June 8, from 10.00 am until 5.00 pm. Admission is free, though there may be small charges for some of the demonstrations. Organizers can use poster printing to create Signs for various activities.
